In the context of the current debate around PVC, mechanical recycling has a key role to play to assure the sustainability of this material. In its optimistic scenario, the Green Paper on PVC, a summary paper on the situation, and options for PVC waste management, announces that more than 25% of the PVC post consumer waste could be recycled (up from 3%).

TThe PVC industry has taken first steps to ensure recycling quantities could be increased in a Voluntary Commitment, which will contribute ? 25 millions a year to recycling projects.

The PVC & Building Waste Working Group is a platform for plastics recyclers to develop projects within the PVC industry initiative. It will also focus on issues such as derogation for heavy metals, statistics and monitoring of EU PVC recycling development.
